London’s Metropolitan Police have arrested former British ambassador to the United States Peter Mandelson on suspicion of misconduct in public office, amid allegations he transferred confidential government information to Jeffrey Epstein.

Security sources confirmed the arrest to Sky News, while police declined to name the suspect formally, noting that no charges have yet been filed. In a statement, law enforcement officials said officers detained a 72-year-old man at his residence in Camden, north London, on Monday, February 23. He was taken to a London police station for questioning.

Mandelson served as the UK ambassador to the United States from 2020 to 2023 and is widely regarded as one of the most prominent figures in the Labour Party. Authorities are investigating claims that he may have misused his position by sharing sensitive government documents with Epstein.

The development comes amid a broader investigation tied to Epstein’s international network of political and business contacts. Last week, former Prince Andrew was also detained for questioning in connection with the same case before being released after approximately 12 hours in custody.

Investigators are examining allegations that Andrew may have used his former trade envoy role to secretly pass official documents to Epstein. The former royal has been at the center of controversy for years due to his association with Epstein, the convicted sex offender whose connections to high-profile figures have drawn global scrutiny.

In early December 2025, King Charles III stripped Andrew of all remaining titles, marking a significant escalation in the long-running scandal.

The arrest of a former UK ambassador signals a new phase in the Epstein-related investigation, raising fresh questions about the extent of political and diplomatic links connected to the disgraced financier. Authorities have emphasized that the inquiry remains ongoing and that no formal charges have been announced at this stage.
