The Arab Republic of Egypt joins the world in celebrating International Human Rights Day, observed annually on December 10th, commemorating the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. This day serves to reaffirm the principles of equality, freedom, justice, and human dignity at both the national and international levels, and to promote awareness of fundamental rights and freedoms, which form the cornerstone of progress and comprehensive development.
In recent years, Egypt has witnessed a significant leap forward in promoting and protecting human rights, stemming from a deep-rooted national conviction of the necessity to elevate and develop the Egyptian citizen and guarantee their enjoyment of their constitutional rights without discrimination. This would not have been possible without the political will and sincere desire to continue advancing human rights at both the legislative and practical levels, under the sustained guidance of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Egypt’s election to the Human Rights Council for the period 2026-2028 is a culmination of the progress achieved at the national level and a confirmation of the international community’s confidence in the serious approach adopted by the Egyptian state in this field in recent years.
The launch of the National Human Rights Strategy was a turning point in the course of national action, serving as a compass for various national bodies and institutions in cooperation with all stakeholders, foremost among them civil society and the National Council for Human Rights. This strategy has contributed to the development of relevant legislative and institutional frameworks and the launch of long-term initiatives in the areas of civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights, as well as strengthening the rights of women, children, youth, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, in addition to intensifying efforts to disseminate a culture of human rights and build capacity.
On this occasion, Egypt reaffirms its commitment to continuing to strengthen the human rights system on the firm foundations of respect for the Constitution and international obligations, and to developing national policies and legislation that support rights and freedoms. It also emphasizes its commitment to working continuously to ensure a dignified life for all citizens and to provide a safe environment for upholding the values of citizenship, the rule of law, and equality.
