Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, received a phone call from Singapore’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, as part of ongoing coordination and consultations aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.

During the conversation, Abdelatty highlighted the depth of ties between Egypt and Singapore, noting the growing momentum in their relationship, particularly through high-level visits and exchanges.

He pointed to the upcoming visit of the President of Singapore to Cairo, which coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Abdelatty also underscored Egypt’s historic role as the first Arab nation to establish diplomatic ties with Singapore, reflecting the longstanding nature of this partnership.

The Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of enhancing trade and investment cooperation, stressing that Singapore is currently the fifth-largest foreign investor in Egypt.

This demonstrates Singapore’s confidence in the Egyptian economy and opens the door to expanded cooperation across multiple sectors.

On regional issues, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s firm position on the urgent need for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

He stressed the importance of protecting Palestinian lives, ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid, and addressing the catastrophic conditions caused by Israel’s systematic policies of deprivation.

He called for immediate international action to secure safe and sustainable access for aid through the reopening of all crossings into the Gaza Strip.

The minister further underscored the necessity of advancing toward a genuine political horizon that achieves a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian cause, safeguarding the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state along the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

For his part, Singapore’s Foreign Minister expressed appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, including facilitating the delivery of Singaporean aid to Palestinians through Al-Arish Airport, as well as its continued efforts to foster peace and stability in the region.
