The Rafah land crossing on the Egyptian side has received multiple visits from foreign diplomatic delegations seeking to observe Egypt’s role in facilitating humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip.
North Sinai Governor Khaled Mujawer said delegations from the British and Irish embassies recently toured the crossing as part of routine foreign visits, noting that larger diplomatic visits are expected in the coming period, including a planned visit by Ireland’s foreign minister.
The governor explained that any agreement related to the current situation revolves around three main pillars: the exchange of prisoners and bodies, the entry of humanitarian aid, and the reception of wounded and injured individuals. He stressed that the governorate’s executive role focuses on easing the entry of aid and receiving injured Palestinians arriving from Gaza.
During their visits, delegations receive detailed briefings on Egypt’s humanitarian efforts, the operational mechanisms of the Rafah crossing, and the logistical and financial burden borne by the Egyptian state. The tours also include visits to Egyptian Red Crescent warehouses to review aid collection and distribution processes, as well as to Al-Arish General Hospital, where Palestinian patients are receiving medical care.
Governor Mujawer emphasized that these field visits help support Egypt’s political decision-making by showcasing the country’s parallel political and operational efforts on the ground.
