Several British supermarket chains have imposed restrictions on the amount of some fresh fruits and vegetables customers can buy amid shortages attributed to bad weather in Spain and Morocco.
One of the UK's largest grocery chains said it would temporarily limit each customer to three items each tomato, peppers, and cucumbers.
Empty shelves have become a political issue, with opponents of Britain's decision to leave the European Union (EU) blaming Brexit for fruit and vegetable shortages.
But analysts specializing in this field said that the main reason is bad weather that damages crops in Spain and Morocco, two of the main UK suppliers of fresh food in winter.
Spain was hit by unusually cold weather, Morocco was also hit by freezing temperatures in January, and ferries were canceled due to inclement weather last month meant less produce was being shipped to Britain.
