Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, participated in the emergency Security Council session on developments in Lebanon.
Abdel Aty affirmed that what is happening now in Lebanon is a full scale aggression and a blatant violation of the sovereignty of a state that is a founding member of the United Nations, stressing that this aggression has claimed hundreds of lives, caused thousands of injuries, and imposed the forced displacement of tens of thousands of Lebanese citizens in complete violation of the United Nations Charter and in violation of the provisions of International law and international humanitarian law.
He added that the tragedy that Lebanon is experiencing now is the result of the shameful inability of the Security Council to carry out its responsibility to stop the war that has been going on for an entire year in Gaza, stressing that Egypt has repeatedly warned that the continuation of the war in Gaza threatens to expand to other regional arenas, and threatens international peace and security in the entire region.
The Minister stressed that the Security Council must assume its responsibilities and put an end to the unjustified and unacceptable catastrophe that Lebanon is experiencing.
