Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Expatriates’ Affairs Dr. Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Thursday with US Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, as part of ongoing consultations to follow up on developments in the Gaza Strip and the Iranian nuclear file, as well as to coordinate joint efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region.

During the call, both sides exchanged views on the situation in Gaza.

Abdelatty underscored the urgent need to put an end to the ongoing Israeli military operations in the Strip, highlighting the severe humanitarian consequences these operations have inflicted on its population.

FM further stressed the grave danger of Israeli plans advocating displacement, warning that such schemes constitute a major factor of instability in the region and directly undermine regional security.

He firmly stated that the displacement of Palestinians from their land is absolutely unacceptable, as it undermines and erodes the Palestinian cause.

Moreover, Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s categorical rejection of any form of displacement under any pretext or justification, reiterating the necessity for Palestinians to remain on their land.

He also called for an immediate ceasefire to help de-escalate tensions, facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid amid catastrophic conditions in Gaza, and restore stability to the region.

On another note, the two sides discussed regional de-escalation efforts, particularly the Iranian nuclear file.

The call touched on the agreement reached between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Cairo on September 9, which marked the first step toward resuming cooperation between the two sides following the Israeli attack on Iran.

In this regard, Abdelatty briefed the US envoy on the latest contacts with the Iranian side, outlining efforts to de-escalate tensions, delay the mechanism for re-imposing UN sanctions, and resume negotiations between Iran and the United States.
