Foreign Minister (FM) Dr. Badr Abdelatty, held a telephone conversation on Wednesday with U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, as part of their regular consultations on regional developments, particularly the catastrophic situation in Gaza and the Iranian nuclear issue.
Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, official Presidential Spokesman, stated that during the call, Abdelatty reviewed the latest updates on ceasefire negotiations in Gaza, especially following Hamas’s acceptance of the proposal previously presented by the U.S. envoy.
He stressed the critical importance of Israel responding positively to the proposal and implementing its provisions in order to address the ongoing crisis, safeguard the lives of hostages, alleviate the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, and ensure the delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid to meet the urgent needs of a population facing a systematic starvation policy.
FM also underscored the need to seize the current opportunity created by Hamas’s acceptance of the U.S. proposal to bring an end to this unjust war, which has lasted nearly two years.
He called for utilizing the proposed 60-day truce period to advance negotiations aimed at ending the war and laying the foundations for a just settlement of the Palestinian question.
Regarding the Iranian nuclear program, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s consistent stance that calls for de-escalation in the Middle East and rejects military solutions to this file and other regional crises.
He pointed out to Egypt’s ongoing efforts to revive the negotiation track in a manner that strengthens regional and international security and stability.
FM further emphasized the necessity of continuing joint efforts between Egypt and the United States (U.S.) to achieve security, peace, and stability in the Middle East, in line with President Trump’s vision of establishing peace in the region and the world, and putting an end to decades of protracted conflict between Palestinians and Israelis.
