Egypt’s Foreign Minister (FM) Sameh Shoukry received on Wednesday UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Nickolay Mladenov, at the ministry headquarters.

They discussed the latest developments of Palestinian cause, and opportunities for re-engagement in the peace track to achieve security and stability in the region.

At the outset of the meeting, Shoukry reaffirmed Egypt's firm position in supporting the brotherly Palestinian people legitimate rights of establishment an independent Palestinian state on the borders agreed in June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy decisions.

Moreover, FM stressed on Egypt’s support for all efforts aimed at achieving stability, peace and security for Palestinians.

On his part, Mladenov reviewed the latest endeavours and contacts he made with the various concerned parties to discuss ways to push the peace path towards security and stability for all countries in the region.

He also expressed appreciations for the continued Egyptian vital role to reach a just and permanent solution for Palestinian issue.

At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue consultations and coordination during the next phase, in order to follow up on relevant developments.

The ministry official spokesman Ahmed Hafez published photos from the meeting on his "Twitter" page.

Earlier, Mladenov called for intensifying international efforts to achieve peace between Palestine and Israel.

In a speech last June on Israel's plan to annex parts of West Bank, he pointed out that this move will have major repercussions and lead to destabilization of the Palestinian territories.

He continued: "This is the time for dialogue," calling on the international community to put pressure on Israel in order not to implement this decision.
