Dr. Badr Abdel-Atty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, and Mr. Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, spoke over phone on Thursday, March 5.
The two ministers discussed regional developments in light of the military escalation and its repercussions on the security and stability of the region.
Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the call addressed the latest developments in the regional landscape amidst the dangerous military escalation witnessed in the region. Both ministers emphasized the paramount importance of de-escalation and prioritizing diplomacy and political solutions, warning of the catastrophic consequences of the continued cycle of violence and its devastating impact on regional and international peace and security.
In this context, Minister Abdel-Atty expressed Egypt's complete rejection and condemnation of any attempts to target the Republic of Turkey. He stressed the importance of respecting the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, stressing that all parties should exercise restraint to prevent the region from descending into widespread chaos.
In the same context, the Foreign Minister stressed the great importance that Egypt attaches to the security of strategic maritime straits as vital arteries for global trade and energy supplies, warning that any attempts to disrupt navigation would result in widespread disruptions in global markets and serious repercussions for the international economy.
