Egypt's Foreign Minister (FM) Sameh Shoukry said that the upcoming climate summit in Sharm El-Sheikh tops the Egyptian state's concerns, expressing his hope to reach an agreement on the climate issue during "Petersburg Dialogue".
During his speech at the opening of "Petersburg Climate Dialogue", hosted in Berlin, Shoukry added that Egypt welcomes all international support aimed at the success of the upcoming climate summit in Sharm el-Sheikh.
"Climate change is causing huge losses all over the world," FM stressed.
Moreover, Egypt's top diplomat stressed that all world countries should work to bridge the gaps related to climate issues.
FM also added that everyone should coordinate efforts to solve the climate crisis, noting that efforts to confront climate change will be discussed during President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's meeting with the German chancellor Olaf Scholz.
In addition, Shoukry expressed his hope to reach an agreement that would help solve the climate change crisis, adding: "In the past, there was not enough attention to climate change issue and the fight against climate change."
It is worth mentioning that, Sisi arrived in the German city of Berlin on Sunday at the invitation of German Chancellor “Olaf Schoz” to participate in the activities of the “Petersburg Climate Dialogue” tomorrow, Monday, July 18, under the co-chairmanship of Egypt and Germany.
Bassam Rady, the official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, said that the “Petersburg Dialogue” is one of the important stations ahead of the next session of the global climate summit in Sharm El-Sheikh next November because it represents an opportunity for consultation and coordination among a large group of active countries on the efforts of confronting climate change.
“Egypt’s co-chairmanship of this important forum represents an appreciation of its vital role, under the leadership of the President, in the framework of climate change negotiations over the past years, ” Rady added.
During this visit, the president will meet a number of German officials including German Chancellor “Olaf Scholz”, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations at all levels, within the framework of the two countries’ keenness to strengthen cooperation and continue intensive consultation on issues of common interest.
