Egypt's Foreign Minister (FM) Sameh Shoukry is set to pay an official visit to Beirut on Tuesday, according to the Lebanese TV channel MTV.
During his visit, Shoukry will hold talks with Lebanese President Michel Aoun, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Former Prime Minister, Saad El-Hariri, as well as a number of senior officials.
It is worth mentioning that, Shoukry participated in a virtual meeting organized by the United Nations (UN) on Monday on the Humanitarian situation in Lebanon.
He reiterated Egypt's solidarity with the Lebanese people, noting that Cairo is exerting all possible efforts to provide the necessary support to the Lebanese to overcome the repercussions of the deadly blast.
Aoun accepted on Monday the resignation of the prime minister Hassan Diab and his government, which came after last week’s devastating explosion in Beirut port.
In a statement, Aoun asked the resigned government to stay on in a caretaker capacity until a new cabinet is formed. It also added that the Lebanese president thanked all the government for their efforts during the last period.
Earlier today, Lebanon’s government submitted a resignation in the wake of the deadly explosion that caused a large-scale public rage against the country’s regime, with protesters and police fighting running battles in the capital for a third day.
