Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry inaugurated Saturday the annual conference of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs (ECFA), where he touched upon the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis on the Middle East and Egypt.

Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid indicated that Shoukry expressed his pride and admiration for the remarkable successes achieved by the Egyptian diplomatic amid the crises and challenges witnessed in 2022.

Shoukry also mentioned the Arab Republic’s relentless efforts to interact at the bilateral and multilateral levels to contain the negative economic repercussions resulting from the Ukrainian conflict on the Egyptian economy.

Furthermore, he stressed the importance of preserving the concept of the national state, addressing the key challenges facing Egypt's regional neighbors in Libya, Sudan, and Palestine.

Abu Zeid noted that Shoukry underlined Egypt's National Climate Change Strategy 2050 which was launched last May. This is in addition to the state’s objectives to rely on new and renewable energy sources along with traditional energy resources.

The minister also highlighted Egypt's most prominent successes through its hosting of the COP27 climate conference in November 2022.

He also stressed the importance of facing serious water security challenges across the Middle East and the African continent, some of whose countries are located in the driest and most deserted regions of the world.

Where this challenge comes in conjunction with the desire of some upstream countries to monopolize the water resource and control it without regard for the capabilities of other riparian countries, referring to Ethiopia's procrastination in reaching a binding legal framework for filling and operating the Renaissance Dam.
