FM Pays Official Visit to Athens

Foreign Minister (FM) Sameh Shoukry headed to Greek capital Athens on Sunday on an official visit aimed at following up and strengthening the course of bilateral relations between the two countries and consulting on a number of regional and international issues.

This was stated by Ahmed Abu Zeid, spokesman and Director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The spokesman explained that the visit comes within the framework of emphasizing the strategic nature of relations between Egypt and Greece, and the mutual keenness to strengthen this distinguished and close relationship, which has developed and deepened during the past years.

The visit also aims to consult and coordinate positions on a number of regional and international developments, at the forefront of which are efforts to end the war in the Gaza Strip.

Moreover, Abu Zeid added that FM will hold a number of important meetings during his visit, most notably a meeting with his Greek counterpart "George Gerapetritis", where the two sides will hold an extended discussion session to follow up on the implementation and enhancement of bilateral cooperation programs, and coordination between the two countries in various fields, in addition to continuing political consultations on issues of common interest, especially those related to developments in the Middle East.

Furthermore, Shoukry is also scheduled to meet with Copelouzos Electricity Group Chairman Dimitrios Copelouzos to follow up on the progress of the electricity interconnection project between Egypt and Greece. He will also hold interviews with the Greek media.
