Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, met today, Wednesday, with members of the International Relations and Defence Committee of the UK House of Lords, chaired by Lord Tariq Ahmad, the committee's Acting Chairman, during his current visit to London.
During the meeting, Abdelatty praised the deeply rooted historical relations between Egypt and the United Kingdom, highlighting the strong political and parliamentary ties that bind the two countries.
Moreover, he emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation across various political, economic, investment, and parliamentary fields.
FM also pointed out the crucial role of the parliamentary component in supporting Egyptian-British relations through the exchange of views and expertise on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Furthermore, Abdelatty stressed the need to intensify mutual visits between parliamentarians from both nations to elevate parliamentary cooperation.
He also highlighted the importance of boosting economic, trade, and investment ties, as well as supporting communication between the private sector institutions of both countries.
In addition, Abdelatty announced the upcoming formation of the Egyptian-British Friendship Group within the Egyptian Parliament.
In this regard, he underscored the importance of activating cooperation between the parliamentary friendship groups in both countries, particularly given the existence of an All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) dedicated to Egypt within both chambers of the British Parliament.
FM also stressed the necessity of continuing political and parliamentary consultations on a regular basis. This would facilitate joint coordination regarding prominent regional and international issues, and allow for the exploration of ways to develop frameworks governing the movement of students, businesspeople, and labor between the two countries—achieving mutual interests and meeting the needs of the British labor market.
The meeting witnessed an interactive discussion on current regional and international developments.
In the same context, Abdelatty outlined the core parameters of the Egyptian stance regarding the ongoing crises in the region, noting Egypt's intensive efforts to de-escalate tensions and support political and diplomatic solutions.
He also reaffirmed the importance of respecting state sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
On the Palestinian Issue, Abdelatty emphasized the centrality of the Palestinian cause to Egypt.
He further reaffirmed Egypt's continuous and full support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights, foremost among which is the establishment of an independent state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, welcoming the UK's stance and recognition of the Palestinian state.
