FM Meets South Sudan's Trade & Industry

Badr Abdel Aty, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, graciously welcomed Mr. Joseph Mom Majak, the newly appointed Trade and Industry Minister of South Sudan and the outgoing South Sudanese Ambassador to Egypt. 

This significant meeting served as a farewell occasion commemorating the end of Mr. Majak's distinguished tenure as his country’s Ambassador to Egypt.

During the meeting, Abdel Aty conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Majak on his new ministerial role. 

He took the opportunity to reflect upon and commend the deep-seated historical relations that bind Egypt and South Sudan.

 Notably, he highlighted that Egypt was the second country to formally recognize the Republic of South Sudan immediately following its declaration of independence in 2011.

He also emphasized Egypt's unwavering commitment to supporting South Sudan in its pursuit of peace and stability. The minister recounted Egypt's longstanding tradition of providing comprehensive assistance to South Sudan which has been instrumental in fostering development across multiple sectors.

 Among the critical areas of cooperation, he underscored the significant contributions in irrigation, water resources, and electricity. These collaborative efforts are deeply rooted in the shared interests and mutual benefits of both nations.

Furthermore, Abdel Aty took the opportunity to reiterate the paramount importance of Egypt's water security. He firmly expressed Egypt's staunch opposition to any unilateral actions that may jeopardize shared water resources. 

The Egyptian minister called for the adherence to international law principles and stressed the necessity of respecting the consensus principle among the countries of the Nile Basin.
