Foreign minister Badr Abdel Aty met on Wednesday with Constantinos Kombos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, on the sidelines of the African-European Ministerial Meeting held in Brussels.

Abdel Aty praised the distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and Cyprus and emphasized the importance of capitalizing on the political momentum generated following the two fruitful summits held in January 2025 in Cairo, both bilaterally between Egypt and Cyprus and the tripartite summit among Egypt, Cyprus, and Greece.

He pointed out to the importance of activating all agreements and memoranda of understanding signed during the last two bilateral and tripartite summits, as well as previous summits, especially the labor agreement signed between the two countries, expressing his aspiration to raise the level of relations to broader horizons in various fields.

The Egyptian foreign minister praised Cyprus' support for Egypt in various European Union institutions, particularly with regard to the European financial package provided to Egypt. He expressed his aspiration to intensify cooperation during the Cypriot presidency of the European Union in the first half of 2026, particularly amid the elevation of relations between Egypt and the European Union to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

The two ministers exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of common interest, most notably the Palestinian issue.

Abdel Aty briefed his Cypriot counterpart on Egypt's efforts to restore the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid.

The two ministers emphasized the need to continue coordination and intensify efforts to de-escalate and reduce tensions in the region, in order to support security and stability in the region.
