Following the directives of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to support Lebanon at all levels, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, Badr Abdel Aty, met on Wednesday in Beirut with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.
Tamim Khallaf, Foreign Ministry spokesman stated that Abdel Atty emphasized that the visit aligns with Egypt’s political leadership’s directives to express Egypt’s full support for Lebanon in facing Israeli aggression and repeated violations of Lebanese sovereignty in blatant contravention of international law.
Moreover, FM underscored Egypt’s firm stance on respecting Lebanese sovereignty and rejecting all Israeli actions that undermine the unity and territorial integrity of Lebanon. He condemned the Israeli military’s targeting of UNIFIL forces as a flagrant violation of Lebanese sovereignty and international law.
Abdel Atty also reviewed Egypt's efforts to secure an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and Gaza and to de-escalate tensions in the region.
He stressed the need for international efforts to promote calm, fully implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701 from all parties, support Lebanese institutions, especially the Lebanese army, and provide all forms of humanitarian aid.
Furthermore, FM addressed the issue of Lebanon’s presidential vacancy, emphasizing the importance of electing a president based on national consensus without external influence.
He affirmed that Cairo spares no effort in its bilateral contacts and coordination with member states of the Quintet Committee on Lebanon to resolve the presidential vacancy. The minister noted that the committee’s efforts are aimed at assisting, facilitating, and bringing Lebanese parties closer together, while upholding Lebanon’s sovereign right to elect its president.
