Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry headed earlier Thursday to Algeria for talks with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and to deliver a message from Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.
In press statements, Egyptian foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said that Shoukry will meet with his Jordanian counterpart Sabri Boukadoum to discuss bolstering bilateral relations in all fields to serve the interests of both countries.
Moreover, they will discuss a number of key regional and international issues, foremost of which; Libyan crisis in the light of the accelerated developments.
It is worth mentioning that, relations between both countries have been generally friendly throughout their history which dates back to Egypt's strong support for Ahmed Ben Bella's FLN during the Algerian War of Independence.
In addition, Egypt and Algeria are member states of the Arab League while sharing similar views on major regional issues.
Tebboune, former Algerian prime minister (PM), has won the country’s presidential election, according to the national electoral commission. He gained 58% of the vote, enough to prevent a second round.
The Algerian President was born on 17 November 1945.
He served as Algeria’s Prime Minister from May 2017 to August 2017.
He held several administrative positions in the 1980s and was in charge of several cities (Adrar, Tiaret and Tizi Ouzou).
In 1991, he became Minister Delegate for Local Government under Chadli Bendjedid.
In 2001, he chaired the Ministry of Urban Planning and Housing, under Ali Benflis. He remained there for a year before representing former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika in one-off diplomatic missions in Iran and Syria.
Following the May 2017 parliamentary election, Bouteflika appointed Tebboune to succeed Sellal as Prime Minister.
