Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, met on Sunday with Japanese MP Tomoko Abe, a member of Japan’s House of Representatives.
During the meeting, Minister Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the distinguished Egyptian-Japanese relations and praised the projects implemented by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in partnership with various Egyptian institutions.
He also highlighted the successful experience of the Egyptian-Japanese schools across the country and the Egyptian-Japanese University of Science and Technology (E-JUST), in addition to Japan’s valued support for the Grand Egyptian Museum project.
Moreover, Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s efforts to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza and noted the Arab plan for reconstruction.
He expressed Egypt’s hope for Japan’s participation in the upcoming Gaza Reconstruction Conference to be hosted in Cairo, including contributions from relevant Japanese agencies and stakeholders.
FM also conveyed Egypt’s gratitude for Japan’s humanitarian initiative in receiving a number of injured Palestinians from Gaza who were previously treated in Egyptian hospitals for further medical care in Japan.
For her part, MP Tomoko Abe praised the strong ties of friendship between Egypt and Japan.
She delivered a written message from Japanese Foreign Minister (FM) Takeshi Iwaya to Minister Abdelatty, commending Egypt’s role in securing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and stressing the importance of implementing all its phases.
He also welcomed the cooperation that led to Japan receiving wounded Palestinians from Gaza.
Furthermore, Minister Iwaya extended an invitation to Abdelatty to visit Japan to hold the next round of the Egyptian-Japanese Strategic Dialogue in the near future.
