Foreign Minister (FM) Sameh Shoukry received a phone call from his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Sunday evening, October 22, 2023.

Both officials exchanged views and assessments on the deteriorating field and humanitarian conditions in Gaza Strip, and the paths of action to alleviate the burden of the humanitarian suffering that Palestinians in the sector are exposed to under the continuous Israeli shelling.

In this context, Shoukry also stressed the danger of widening the scope of the conflict and the spread of violence to include other areas in a way that threatens the stability of the region and portends consequences that are difficult to predict in terms of their scope and repercussions.

In a related context, the Iranian FM thanked Egypt for its role in providing humanitarian assistance to the people of the Gaza Strip.

In addition, the ministers agreed on the need to coordinate efforts at the regional and international levels to provide safe and sustainable access to humanitarian and relief assistance to Gaza.

Moreover, Egyptian FM briefed his Iranian counterpart on the results of Cairo summit for Peace, and the outcome of the deliberations and meetings that took place during the summit and on its sidelines.

Furthermore, he expressed his aspiration to build on Cairo Summit, as the first comprehensive effort by regional and international parties to engage politically with the crisis by identifying common areas of action and seeking solutions that lead to a ceasefire.
