Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Emigrants, held a phone call with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), during which both sides discussed regional developments.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Tamim Khallaf stated that the two sides discussed the outcomes of the 11th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), which was held in New York from April 27 to May 22.

During the call, FM expressed disappointment over the conference's failure to reach a consensus on a final document.

He also emphasized the continued validity of the outcomes from previous review conferences, most notably the resolution on establishing a zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East, which was adopted by the 1995 NPT Review and Extension Conference.

Abdelatty also stressed the pivotal importance of the NPT as the core pillar of the nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation regime, and its role in promoting international peace and security, underscoring the necessity of achieving the treaty's universality, particularly in the Middle East.

Furthermore, the call also touched upon the latest developments in the negotiations between the United States and Iran, as well as the ongoing efforts to reach an agreement that addresses the concerns of all parties.

In this regard, FM emphasized the need to intensify diplomatic efforts and support measures aimed at reaching consensus-based understandings between the American and Iranian sides, thereby contributing to de-escalation, easing tensions, and enhancing regional and international security and stability.
