Egypt's Foreign Minister (FM), Sameh Shoukry, headed to the Spanish capital, Madrid, this morning, Sunday, Ahmed Abu Zeid, Foreign Ministry's official spokesperson stated.
This visit aims to continue the close consultations between the two countries regarding developments in the Palestinian issue, especially the developments in the Gaza war, and the process of enhancing international recognition of the independent Palestinian state.
Additionally, the discussions will cover all aspects of the distinguished and growing bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.
Abu Zeid added that the visit will include extensive political consultations between the two countries, chaired by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares.
Furthermore, there will be a meeting between the Egyptian Foreign Minister and Pedro Sánchez, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Spain, to closely consult on the role Spain can play in supporting efforts to stop the war in the Gaza Strip and to restore the political settlement process for the Palestinian issue based on a two-state solution. This is based on Spain's historically supportive positions on the Palestinian issue, including its recent important step of recognizing the Palestinian state.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson also noted that the meetings of the Foreign Minister will address the progress made in several priority areas of cooperation between the two countries, particularly economic cooperation and attracting Spanish investments to Egypt.
They will also discuss coordinating efforts to address common challenges in the Mediterranean region, especially the phenomenon of illegal migration.
