Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Dr. Badr Abdel Atty, and his French counterpart Mr. Jean-Noël Barrot, spoke over phone on Thursday evening, June 26.

The call addressed regional developments and ways to enhance the distinguished bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, revealed that the two ministers discussed developments in the Gaza Strip following the ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel. They emphasized the importance of resuming the ceasefire in Gaza, and the delivery of aids amid the severe deterioration of the humanitarian situation there.

Abdel Atty, for his part, reviewed the tireless efforts undertaken by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.

The two ministers also discussed the issue of recognizing the Palestinian state, where Abdel-Atty was briefed from his French counterpart about developments related to the high-level international conference on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state solution, co-chaired by France and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

He also stressed the need to achieve a just and sustainable settlement of the Palestinian issue through the implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Regarding Iran and Israel, The official spokesperson added that the two ministers agreed on the importance of fully adhering to the ceasefire and taking practical and tangible measures to contribute to de-escalation and open the way for political and diplomatic processes.

On the other hand, the two ministers praised the strategic relations between Egypt and France and affirmed their commitment to strengthening all aspects of bilateral relations and advancing them to broader horizons.
