FM, EU's Borrell Discuss Gaza Crisis over Phone

Foreign Minister (FM) Badr Abdel Atty received a phone call on Sunday, from Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, to congratulate him on assuming his new position.

Foreign Ministry official spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid mentioned that during the call, Abdel Aty and Borrell affirmed their mutual commitment to elevating the relations between Egypt and the European Union to the level of strategic partnership. 

They welcomed the momentum and success achieved by the Egyptian-European Investment Conference held on June 29-30, considering it one of the first major events of the new strategic partnership, and conveying a clear message to the European private sector about the importance of Egypt as a significant destination for European investments.

For his part, FM emphasized the importance Egypt places on implementing the comprehensive partnership agreement between Egypt and the European Union with its six pillars and accelerating the disbursement of the associated financial packages. 

Moreover, both sides expressed their eagerness to continue consultation and coordination in line with the joint political declaration on enhancing political dialogue between Egypt and the European Union.

The call also touched on the developments regarding the Gaza crisis. 

In this regard, Abdel Atty expressed Egypt's appreciation for the positive stances adopted by the High Representative concerning the situation in the region, especially the crisis in Gaza, and looked forward to continuing to work together to stop the ongoing war in the sector and facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid to address the catastrophic humanitarian situation faced by the residents of Gaza. 

Furthermore, he called on the High Representative to continue the European Union's support for the Palestinian Authority to enable it to fulfill its responsibilities towards the Palestinian people, expressing Egypt's keenness to maintain continuous coordination with the European Union to support stability and defuse the severe crises currently facing the Middle East.
