Egypt's Foreign Minister (FM) Dr. Badr Abdel Atty emphasized the special and longstanding relationship between Egypt and Chad, stressing Egypt's commitment to strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and solidarity between the two nations.
This was highlighted during a meeting between the Egyptian Foreign Minister and Abdel Rahman Ghulam Allah, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration, Chadians Abroad, and International Cooperation, on the sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) held in Tokyo, Japan.
During the meeting, FM expressed Egypt's dedication to the security and stability of Chad, considering it essential for the security and stability of the region.
Moreover, both ministers looked forward to reactivating the joint committee between the two countries and highlighted the importance of establishing a political consultation committee at the ministerial level. They also reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing mutual cooperation and expanding bilateral relations across various critical sectors, including energy, infrastructure, construction, electricity, healthcare, pharmaceutical manufacturing, education, and agriculture.
In addition, the meeting included an exchange of views on the ongoing crisis in Sudan, considering its direct impact on both Egypt and Chad due to their immediate proximity to Sudan. Both countries are significantly affected by the crisis and its humanitarian consequences, as they host hundreds of thousands of Sudanese refugees. The ministers emphasized the connection between their national security and the security and stability of Sudan.
Furthermore, the two ministers agreed on the need to focus efforts on opening crossings and providing safe corridors for humanitarian aid to reach all areas of Sudan, ensuring the safe access of humanitarian workers to affected regions.
They also agreed to encourage donor countries and relevant international organizations to fulfill their humanitarian aid commitments to Sudan in coordination with neighboring countries. Additionally, they discussed the intensification of coordination and efforts to achieve the desired resolution of the crisis and reviewed the overall political and security developments in Africa, along with several regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Additionally, they underscored the importance of intensifying coordination and consultation in the coming period to address the increasing challenges facing African nations.
