Egypt's Foreign Minister (FM) Sameh Shoukry said on Sunday that Egypt has nothing to do with the interruption of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) negotiations.
In a joint press conference with his Omani counterpart, Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, Shoukry added that Egypt is always ready to resume negotiations with Ethiopia if there is a political will that helps to reach an agreement.
Moreover, Egypt’s top diplomat pointed out that the last negotiations took place under the supervision of the African Union (AU), explaining that many issues were resolved under the umbrella of the AU in accordance with international law, which meets the interests of the upstream and downstream countries.
In addition, Shoukry affirmed that Egypt is always keen to reach a binding legal agreement that meets the rights of Ethiopia in development as well as Egypt and Sudan’s rights to the Nile River water.
