Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, affirmed Egypt’s pride in the deep-rooted historical ties with Algeria.
During a meeting with his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf, in Tunisia, both ministers emphasized their shared commitment to building on the current positive momentum to enhance cooperation across political, economic, trade, and investment fields.
Tamim Khallaf, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the meeting focused on bilateral relations and regional coordination. Dr. Abdelatty praised the significant development in cooperation between the two nations, stressing the importance of continued consultation on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The two ministers discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip and U.S. President Donald Trump’s initiative to launch the "Board of Peace."
In this regard, Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s welcome of the initiative, stressing the importance of advancing the second phase of the U.S. President’s plan. This includes supporting the National Committee for Gaza Management and deploying an international stability force to monitor the ceasefire, paving the way for early recovery and reconstruction while ensuring the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid.
Regarding Libya, the ministers exchanged views on the latest developments.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for a political settlement that preserves Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, ensuring a "Libyan-led and Libyan-owned" political process. He also emphasized the necessity of creating conditions for simultaneous elections, ending the state of division, and rejecting any foreign interference that obstructs a sustainable solution.
Furthermore, both ministers highlighted the Tripartite Consultative Mechanism (Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria) as a pivotal framework for coordinating the efforts of direct neighboring countries.
On the Sudanese file, Abdelatty underscored the urgency of reaching a humanitarian truce and establishing safe havens and corridors as a prelude to a comprehensive ceasefire.
Moreover, he reiterated Egypt’s firm stance on respecting Sudan’s sovereignty and supporting its national institutions through an inclusive, Sudanese-owned political process.
