Egypt's Foreign Minister (FM) Sameh Shoukry held talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday in Ramallah, after concluding his official visit to Amman, Jordan.

The visit reaffirms Egypt's steadfast supportive position for Palestine, and ways to reach the desired peace, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said in a statement.

Hafez added that this visit comes within the framework of Egypt's continuous efforts to build on the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and to discuss ways to re-engage in the negotiation process in an effort to revive the peace process that would lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Moreover, the visit aims to continue coordination towards all developments in the Palestinian issue and efforts related to Gaza's reconstruction, in accordance with the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to support the Palestinians, the spokesman added.
