Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed legislation to rename Palm Beach International Airport as President Donald J. Trump International Airport, marking a high-profile move tied to the former president’s political legacy.
The renaming of the airport, located roughly three kilometers from Mar-a-Lago, the private resort owned by Donald Trump, still requires administrative steps before becoming official. These include updates and procedural actions by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), as well as the completion of legal and operational agreements.
In a statement, the FAA clarified that airport naming decisions are handled at the local level and do not require federal approval. However, the agency noted it must carry out technical updates, including revising navigation charts and aviation databases once the name change is finalized.
The move comes as Trump continues efforts to cement his influence on public institutions following his return to the White House in January 2025. Similar initiatives have included proposals to attach his name to prominent national landmarks, such as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
The proposal is expected to draw both political support and criticism, reflecting ongoing divisions over Trump’s legacy and role in shaping American public life.
