Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency today for 35 counties in anticipation of Tropical Storm Milton, including all counties in the Tampa Bay area.
As the storm develops, forecasts indicate that Tropical Storm Milton could intensify into a dangerous hurricane, potentially impacting Florida's western coast next week.
Residents are being warned of life-threatening winds, flooding, and heavy rainfall.
According to the National Hurricane Center, the National Weather Service is expected to issue hurricane and coastal flood warnings for certain parts of Florida later today.
The storm is predicted to bring sustained winds of up to 115 miles per hour (approximately 185 kilometers per hour) as it approaches the coast near St. Petersburg and Tampa, which is equivalent to a Category 2 or 3 hurricane.
