First Lady Entissar El Sisi celebrated Friday the Human Rights Day, stressing the significance of upholding all human beings' rights.

“Today, the world celebrates Human Rights Day which emphasizes the importance of upholding the rights of every human being to rebuild societies," she wrote on her official Facebook account.

The First Lady noted that "Our country has been able, during the recent period, to consolidate the most basic principles of human rights by providing a decent life for all Egyptians.”

Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December — the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

The UDHR is a milestone document, which proclaims the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being - regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Available in more than 500 languages, it is the most translated document in the world.

This year’s Human Rights Day theme relates to 'Equality' and Article 1 of the UDHR – “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights," according to the United Nations official website.
