Ukraine announced on Wednesday that the first cargo ship ported from the new Black Sea shipping passages, despite threats from Russia.

Kyiv announced the maritime passages for civilian vessels, last week after Russia abandoned a new agreement for allowing a safe sea channel for grain exports.

Ukraine's Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov announced: "The first vessel is moving along the temporary corridors established for civilian vessels to and from Black Sea ports."

The vessel is the Hong Kong-flagged Joseph Schulte, and sailed from the port of Odesa.

Kubrakov added: "Ukraine proposed this route in its appeal to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO)."

"The corridor will be primarily used to evacuate ships that were in the Ukrainian ports of Chornomorsk, Odesa and Pivdenny.."
