Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas had a phone call on Friday, marking their first since Lapid assumed his role.
Abbas congratulated Lapid on taking the position, and the Israeli leader wished him a blessed Eid al-Adha, a statement from the Prime Minister's office noted.
The two touched upon continuing their cooperation, underscoring the need to maintain calm and quiet in the area, according to the statement.
In addition, Hussein Al-Sheikh, the secretary-general of the PLO Executive Committee, tweeted that "They discussed the latest situation briefly."
In the same vein, Abbas received Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz Thursday evening at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.
During the meeting, the Palestinian President stressed the importance of creating a political horizon, commitment to the signed agreements and stopping the practices that lead to the deterioration of the situation, Wafa News Agency reported.
The two sides also highlighted the importance of creating a peaceful atmosphere before U.S. President Joe Biden's visit, which is welcomed by the Palestinian side.
Gantz also extended congratulations to the president and the Palestinian people on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.
