The small village of Dixville Notch, located deep in the forests of New Hampshire near the Canadian border, continued its tradition of being the first to cast and announce presidential election results.

With just six residents participating, the village counted and released results within minutes, showing an unexpected tie between presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, each receiving three votes.

As per tradition, the village’s polling station opens at midnight on election day. This custom, followed since 1960, has earned Dixville Notch the title “First in the Nation.” Voting took place in a specially prepared room at a local hotel, where the six voters cast secret ballots. Immediately after voting, officials counted the ballots and quickly announced the outcome.

While Dixville Notch’s results are not representative of voter trends in New Hampshire or nationwide, the village’s unique approach to voting and its swift announcement of results consistently draw public attention.
