A firefighter was killed and 10 other people injured following a massive fire and explosion at a lumber mill in the US state of Maine, authorities confirmed.
According to the Maine Department of Public Safety, the blaze erupted at the Robbins Lumber facility in the town of Searsmont, located around 145 kilometers from Portland.
Officials said firefighters were already battling the large industrial fire when a powerful explosion occurred at the site, killing one firefighter and injuring several others.
Emergency crews transported multiple victims to hospital, with some reported to be in critical condition.
Shawn Esler confirmed that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of both the fire and the explosion.
The incident caused significant damage to the lumber facility as emergency teams continued containment and recovery operations
