Authorities at Hong Kong International Airport confirmed that a fire broke out on Tuesday at Terminal 1, forcing the temporary closure of three boarding bridges before the blaze was successfully brought under control.

Airport officials said no injuries were reported as a result of the incident, and operations resumed after safety procedures were completed.

The development comes a day after Hong Kong police reported a separate aviation incident in which two people were killed when a cargo aircraft veered off the runway and crashed into the sea while attempting to land at the airport on Monday.

According to Reuters, a spokesperson for Emirates stated that the affected aircraft was a cargo plane chartered by the airline and identified it as a Boeing 747-400.

The spokesperson added that investigations are ongoing in coordination with Hong Kong aviation authorities to determine the cause of the accident, stressing that the safety of crew members and flight operations remains the airline’s top priority.

No further details have been released regarding the identities of the victims or the precise circumstances of the cargo plane crash.

Some flights at the airport were temporarily suspended while rescue operations and technical assessments of the damaged runway were carried out.
