The Russian-appointed governor of Crimea said on Wednesday that a fire broke out in a military training area in the Kirovsky district of Crimea, noting that about 2,000 people had been evacuated from the area near the base.
Governor Sergei Aksionov said that the fire led to the closure of the Tavrida highway near the base.
Earlier, the RBC Ukraine news agency reported that there had been explosions in the training area.
The Ministry of Emergencies in the Republic of Crimea announced that two temporary residence centers will receive residents who were evacuated as a result of the fire.
Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014.
