Authorities in Dhaka have suspended all flight operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Bangladesh’s main air hub, after a major fire broke out in the airport’s cargo section on Saturday afternoon.
Fire Service spokesman Talha Bin Qasim said 32 fire engines were dispatched to tackle the blaze, which erupted earlier in the day. Thick black smoke was seen billowing above the airport, according to local footage from the scene.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh immediately halted all flights following the incident and announced that operations would remain suspended until further notice.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and investigations are currently underway.
