Finance Min.: Egypt Imported 5 Mln Tons of Wheat, Budget Deficit under Control

Dr. Mohamed Maait, Minister of Finance, confirmed that the state's general budget deficit is under control.

The minister said that the state is continuing its efforts to provide the wheat commodity, noting that nearly 5 million tons of wheat have been imported from abroad so far.

He added, that the support for supply commodities during the fiscal year 2021/2022 amounted to about  EGP 87 billion, including ration cards, wheat subsidies, and a loaf of bread.

He pointed out that the number of inpiduals benefiting from ration cards is about 63 million people and about 72 million citizens benefit from obtaining bread.

Dr. Maait explained that the Ministry of Finance deals flexibly with the rise in prices of basic commodities, whether wheat or others, to provide commodities to citizens in light of the change in prices.
