The Egyptian Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait said on Saturday that the government aims, during the current stage, to enhance electronic services to maintain citizen's safety, in a manner that contributes to reducing gatherings, and limiting the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

In a statement issued today, Maait said that the electronic payment and collection system is subject to continuous development in the light of distinguished international practices, in order to ensure the availability of government services at their actual value, while facilitating their payment in accordance with the latest electronic systems and technological means.

He indicated that, in cooperation with the banking sector, payment of government dues was made available in electronic collection points of the administrative authorities through e-wallets and mobile phones by using the "QR-Code".

He hinted that this new service is an easy and safer way as the mobile phone recognizes the electronic collection points screens, remotely, through the quick response code "QR-Code", and there is no longer a need to enter credit cards numbers or others at electronic collection points "ATMs" to pay government dues.

Hamdi Hosny Project Manager at the Payment and Electronic Collections Unit stated that an introductory video of the QR Code service has been published through the website of the Ministry of Finance and social media platforms, to illustrate how to take advantage of this new electronic technology to motivate citizens to use it to pay government dues online.
