Culture Min. Discusses Proposals to Support Intellectual Rights, Fight Piracy

Dr. Enas Abdel-Dayem, Minister of Culture, held a meeting with a delegation that comprises members of publishing industry, film industry, to protect intellectual rights and fight piracy.

The delegation included Engineer Nadim Elias, head of the delegation, Ahmed Jaber - Chairman of the Printing Room, Sarah Ibrahim, Executive Director, artist Asaad Yunus, member of the Directors Board of the Council and Head The Artistic Works Committee, Saeed Abdo, Head of the Publishers Union and Chairman of the Book Committee, the scriptwriter Mohamed Hefzy , head of Cairo International Film Festival.

Besides, the meeting was also attended by Dr. Haitham El Haj, Head of the Egyptian General Book Authority, artist Khaled Galal, Head of the Cultural Production Sector, Dr. Khaled Abdel Jalil, Head of Censorship of Artistic Works Authority, Dr. Nevin Mohamed, head of the National Library And Archives, Mohamed Rashad, head of the Arab Publishers Union.

The meeting aimed at discussing the ways to support the publishing industry in all its forms: the film industry, protect heritage and intellectual property, open new horizons for exporting the Egyptian cultural and artistic product to the international markets.

Besides, it analyzed the legislative proposals that guarantee the protection of these industries in preparation for submitting them to the parliament.

On the other hand, Abdel Dayem illustrated that developing publishing and cinema industries and preserving intellectual property rights creates many job opportunities and enhances Egypt's soft power on the regional and international levels.

She added that supporting industries of these fields is a national duty, stressing the need to achieve fruitful cooperation between the working parties and civil society institutions to promote the cultural product as one of the sources of national income.

She clarified the need to coordinate with Dr. Nevin Jama, Minister of Trade and Industry to discuss the bases and frameworks of this project.

It is noteworthy that “Export Council for Printing, Packaging, Paper, Books and Artistic Works” was established in 2013; it includes representatives of exporters and producers, it works as an advisory council specialized in preparing strategies and plans to increase exports and raise their efficiency to enhance the competitive position of Egyptian exports in foreign markets.

This council consists of 5 sectors:- printing-packaging - Book -paper - artistic works. This council is concerned with representing the local exporting community in the international agencies to develop the proposing export plans, prepare studies, marketing plans and statistical reports and necessary artistic and financial studies.

The Ministry of Culture implements these proposals following the governmental strategies of the development of the export sector.
