Turkish Foreign Minister (FM) Hakan Fidan affirmed that his country opposes any military intervention against Iran and supports a peaceful resolution of internal disputes led by the Iranian people themselves.
"We have emphasized to our counterparts on every occasion our opposition to any military intervention targeting Iran," Fidan said, as reported by the English edition of Turkey’s A News.
"We hope that Iran's internal issues will be resolved peacefully by the Iranian people without any external interference," he added.
These remarks followed a meeting between the Turkish Foreign Minister and his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, in Istanbul today.
It is worth mentioning that, tensions between Tehran and Washington have escalated in recent weeks following statements by U.S. President Donald Trump, who mentioned that a massive fleet is heading toward Iran while simultaneously calling on Tehran to come to the negotiating table.
Iranian officials have warned that any U.S. attack would be met with a swift response, while emphasizing that Tehran remains open to dialogue, provided it is fair and balanced.
