Dr. Fayed Mustafa, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League and head of its Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector, called for coordinated Arab and international action to protect Jerusalem and defend the rights of Palestinian prisoners during an emergency meeting of the organization’s Council of Permanent Representatives.
Speaking at the session held at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, Mustafa warned that ongoing measures in Jerusalem, including restrictions on access to Islamic and Christian holy sites, represent a serious violation of international law and the historical status quo. He also criticized proposed legislation allowing the execution of Palestinian prisoners, describing it as a dangerous precedent that undermines humanitarian principles and the right to life.
Mustafa urged Arab states to move beyond statements of condemnation and pursue sustained diplomatic, legal, and media efforts to hold those responsible accountable and safeguard Palestinian rights and religious freedoms in Jerusalem.
