A military official in the Fatah movement was killed after being shot inside the Ain Al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanon 24.

The official was identified as Mohammed Al-Saadi, also known as Mohammed Fathi. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, and no party has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

Reports said sporadic gunfire could still be heard in the camp following the incident, raising concerns over possible security tensions inside Ain Al-Hilweh, Lebanon’s largest Palestinian refugee camp.

The identity of those behind the killing has not yet been determined, while local security and Palestinian factions are expected to follow up on the incident to prevent further escalation.

The assassination comes as Lebanon faces renewed security pressure amid rising tensions linked to the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

In a separate development, the Israeli military carried out an airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs, saying it had targeted Hezbollah infrastructure. The Israeli army said the strike was conducted precisely after Hezbollah fired three projectiles towards northern Israel.

According to Israeli statements, the strike targeted a Hezbollah communications official. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz said in a joint statement that the army had attacked Hezbollah targets in Beirut, adding that Israel would not tolerate fire directed at it.
