Farouk Hosny Foundation for Culture and Arts was inaugurated Monday evening at its headquarters in Zamalek, amid the attendee of a large number of artists and intellectuals.
The foundation includes many paintings of artist and former Minister of Culture Farouk Hosny as well as Egyptian and International sculptures from his collection.
In his inaugural speech, Farouk stated that his new foundation is for not only his work and biography but also for serving the society.
He thanked the Ministry of Solidarity for the rapid speed the ministry used in finishing the foundation papers.
It received the official certification from the Ministry of Social Solidarity, on June 10, in preparation for the start of its cultural and artistic activates, under number 872 (2019).
He also thanked the Ministry of Culture, which the foundation will collaborate with in the coming period in presenting major cultural and artistic ideas and visions to the Egyptian society.
Furthermore, the former Minister announced the launch of an annual prize in arts for the youth, which will hold its first session in 2020, with a prize value of EGP 50,000 pounds.
The foundation will deal with all branches of culture and arts and all components of culture according to the concept that the culture is able to accommodate all creative practices of man, as it is able to develop his humanity.
It also works to create an attractive field for young people as well as support people with creative talent.
The foundation Board of Trustees includes Farouk Hosny, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Dr. Mostafa El Feki, businessman Engineer Naguib Sawiris, Dr. Zahi Hawass Archaeologist and former Minister of Antiquities, Dr. Momena Kamel, Dr. Alia Abdulhadi former Dean of Faculty of Fine Arts, Tamer Auf, prominent writer Mohamed Salmawy, biennale organiser and Director of the Arts Complex Ihab el-Laban, Mr. Ahmed El Dabaa, Mrs. Ines Luke, Engineer Abdulsalam Shair, Dr. Khaled Souror, head of the plastic Arts sector, and Dr. Hossam Lotfi legal advisor.
Salmawy stated that civil society has become involved in spreading culture alongside the Ministry of Culture and stressed that the foundation will be a cultural beacon that will include many cultural activities as well as offer prizes of great value as it bears the name of one of the biggest intellectuals in Egypt.
“This artistic edifice will sponsor visual arts and literature, and be a great cultural focus befitting Egypt’s culture and civilization,” He added.
