Farouk Hosni Delivers Lecture in Bahrain

Former Culture Minister Farouk Hosni, delivered a lecture at Sheikh Ibrahim Center in the Kingdom of Bahrain on Monday at the invitation of Sheikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa.

During this lecture, Hosni talked about his experience in art and culture. He explained his experience in the management of cultural work, and answered the questions of the attendees how he was able to bring together various intellectual and political currents to work in the Ministry of Culture.

He reviewed some of the major projects that he contributed to establishing them during his tenure as Minister of Culture.

The Former Culture Minister stressed that he was keen on the cultural investment industry in the Ministry of Culture, in addition to the development of cultural activity, cultural facilities and infrastructure through a series of mega projects.

He added that he established the Cultural Development Fund to activate the process of cultural investment and financing of cultural projects and activities.

Regarding the idea of establishing the Grand Egyptian Museum, Hosni said that the Egyptian Museum located at El Tahrir square was full of antiquities, so the tourist or visitor couldn’t enjoy watching them, hence,  it was necessary to establish the Grand Egyptian Museum to exhibit the Egyptian antiquities in a proper way.

The attendees asked Hosni about the details of the battle of UNESCO, as he was the most likely candidate to take over, he said: "Politics played a role in the battle, although I got the highest number of votes in the history of UNESCO, there were countries against my candidacy, and prevented me from taking office Like Germany, the United States, Japan, and the Jewish lobby, as they could change the result in the last round. "

The lecture was attended by a large high-level audience and a number of Bahraini senior officials like foreign affairs minister His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, minister of justice His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Culture and Antiquities Authority Her Excellency Sheikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Sheikh Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Cabinet Affairs Mohammed Al Mutawa, adviser for information affairs to the King of Bahrain, Nabeel Yacoub Al Hamar,  and ambassador of Egypt to the Kingdom of Bahrain Suha Refaat.

During the lecture, a documentary about the life of Hosni entitled Farouk Hosni between two worlds, was displayed.
