Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk praised the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) as a key partner in achieving food security, during the joint celebration of World Food Day 2025 and FAO’s 80th anniversary.

Farouk highlighted Egypt’s commitment to turning global challenges such as climate change, water scarcity, and economic instability into growth opportunities, underlining President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s prioritization of food security as part of national strategy.

He emphasized ongoing cooperation with FAO and international partners to empower small farmers, women, and youth, enhance sustainable agriculture, and achieve Zero Hunger by 2030.

Deputy Health Minister Abla El-Alfi stressed that nutrition is a human right, outlining Egypt’s national programs to improve maternal and child health and reduce stunting by 25% by 2027.

FAO Regional Representative Abdulhakim El-Waer commended Egypt’s long partnership with the organization and its success in addressing food challenges despite limited natural resources.

The event also showcased youth-led innovations in sustainable agriculture through FAO’s FAOJect competition, and highlighted rural women’s empowerment through nutrition-focused training programs.

The ceremony concluded with awards for agricultural leaders, researchers, and farmers contributing to Egypt’s progress in food security and sustainable development.
