The United Nations in Egypt, in partnership with the private sector, is intensifying efforts to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Regional Office for the Near East, in collaboration with the Country Office in Egypt, hosted a pivotal meeting today to advance this mission.
More than thirty participants attended the meeting, representing 10 private companies, 2 NGOs, and 7 United Nations agencies.
Participants discussed opportunities for joint initiatives, considering the regulatory and policy framework, as well as capacity-building programs that would reinforce transformative investment, and identifying bankable projects.
They also discussed de-risking the agriculture and the entire food system to make this industry more attractive for investors and the private sector. This would not only involve investment but also consolidation of the sector, making it more attractive for all stakeholders, including small farmers.
Representatives highlighted the need to strengthen collaboration between the private sector and the United Nations on food systems from the policy level to intervention in the field, and to create linkages between producers and manufacturers, ensuring a green supply chain.
FAO’s leadership in hosting this event underscores its critical role in fostering impactful collaborations that drive sustainable development and prosperity for all. This meeting represents a significant opportunity to solidify partnerships, align efforts, and create targeted initiatives ensuring lasting progress for Egypt.
