An explosion took place outside a home in the coastal suburb of Alimos south of Athens, police announced on Wednesday.

Authorities revealed that the homemade explosive device was made of firecrackers and flammable liquid, adding that the blast caused minor damage to the property and a car parked in the vicinity.

Meanwhile, no injuries have been reported.

Last year, a massive explosion caused serious damage to a multi-story building in the Greek capital Athens.

The incident took place some 200 meters (656 feet) from the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus. The blast was reportedly heard throughout the city.

"At the time of the explosion I was exactly across from the building, it was strong, really strong, (you see) the buildings around it," taxi driver Christos Chalkias told Reuters. "The explosion sent us two lanes to the right," he said.
